HÀ NỘI – Việt Nam and Egypt should effectively exploit opportunities to further develop bilateral trade, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc said yesterday.

Receiving visiting Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Co-operation Sahar Nasr and Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority and the Suez Canal Economic Zone General Mohab Mamish in Hà Nội, he noted Việt Nam-Egypt relations had developed steadily, but had greater co-operation potentials.

He highlighted garments, agricultural processing and fisheries as areas with particular promise.

Two-way trade turnover between the two countries had averaged around US$400 million per year, but the figure was modest and could be improved upon, he said.

Phúc said Việt Nam was looking to export its products to big supermarket chains in Egypt and consume Egyptian products here.

He said he wished Egypt would create favourable conditions for businesses of both countries to co-operate in oil exploitation and related services.

The PM expressed his delight at the upcoming visit to Việt Nam by the Egyptian President, saying it would open up new co-operation opportunities.

Sahar Nasr informed the Prime Minister of the outcomes of her meetings and working sessions with officials and authorised agencies.

Egypt has many areas with potential for collaboration that Vietnamese businesses may be interested in, such as shipbuilding and seaports, she said.

Mohab Mamish said Egypt had put into operation an economic zone that serves as a bridge between the Mediterranean and Asian region. He said Vietnamese businesses should seek investment opportunities in this economic zone. — VNS
