HÀ NỘI – President of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Trần Thanh Mẫn sent his sympathies yesterday to the Khmer-Việt Nam Association in Cambodia and Vietnamese people living in the country over losses caused by a fire in Phnom Penh on Tuesday.

The fire began at 3.30am in Russey Keo District, completely destroying tens of households, most of which belonged to Vietnamese-Cambodian people.

On behalf of the VFFCC Standing Board, Mẫn offered his deepest sympathies to the Vietnamese and Cambodian families affected by the fire.

To help victims recover, the VFFCC, through the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, would offer each of the 70 families whose houses were completely destroyed VNĐ20 million (US$870), he noted.

He also expressed his hope that the families would overcome their difficulties and return to their normal lives soon.

Shortly after the incident, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Khmer-Vietnamese Association sent staff to the site and met with local authorities and police to seek aid for the victims. — VNS
