HCM CITY — President Trần Đại Quang confirmed the strong commitment of the State in fighting corruption during the second day of his meeting with voters in HCM City yesterday.

He told voters that the Party and State were persistent in battling against corruption and waste, the “internal invaders”.

He said that several corruption cases were being examined and more were expected to be handled in the near future.

“Violators who took money from the State and spent lavishly have made the recovery task more difficult. Corruption is still serious in the country,” he said.

At the meeting, the President also spoke about public debt, saying it was significant to reduce the debt to maintain sustainable development.

As of 2015, Việt Nam’s public debt had contributed 62 percent of GDP. It is expected to increase until the end of the year, adding more pressure on the government to reduce the debt.

"According to IMF (International Monetary Fund), Việt Nam was not added on the list of countries with risk. However, we should be careful,” he said, adding that he had asked the State Audit Office of Việt Nam to inspect projects using Official Development Assistance (ODA) loans.
